Sant Feliu is experiencing a few years of change in public space. Not only will the new planning transform the capital of Baix Llobregat, but it will also create a network with another major reform: the remodeling of Plaça de la Vila and the streets of l'Església, Rectoria, Pou de Sant Pere, Pi i Margall and Passatge del Penedès. The transformation process will begin in November with a participatory action for citizens to decide whether the future square will incorporate a fountain and, if so, which of the options proposed by the City Council will be installed.

The presentation of the project and the start of the participatory process will take place in an official event on November 10 and more details will be announced soon. Voting for the participatory action will last until November 23 and people over 16 years of age registered in Sant Feliu will be able to vote. Voting will be electronic through the platform We decide and support points will be set up at municipal facilities.

The start of the works is scheduled for January 2026, with a duration of 13 months. The Centre district will undergo a transformation process with the aim of reinforcing its identity as a civic place representative of the city. The works will allow to reinforce the symbolism of this space, which was born as a crossroads of the roads that formed the town years ago and which, in the 20th century, was consolidated as the nexus between the City Hall and the Cathedral. Therefore, the reform has been planned with the objectives of dynamizing commercial activity, improving the conditions of the trees and rethinking the furniture and lighting.

The main axes: paving, trees and ornamentation

The project envisages the complete paving of the area with different types of materials that will differentiate the old traces of paths and streams from the later expansions. In this way, the Plaça de la Vila and the streets of l'Església, Rectoria and Pou de Sant Pere will be covered with natural granite stone and artificial stone will be placed on Pi i Margall Street.

As part of this project, the sculptural group will be relocated The heart of the trees, by Jaume Plensa. It will be located around three new cherry blossom trees that will be centered in the space. The rest of the actions that will be carried out will affect the adjacent streets. On Carrer de la Rectoria, Pou de Sant Pere and Església, lighting and vegetation will be improved. And on Carrer Pi i Margall, trees will be planted, soil oxygenation work will be carried out and a single platform will be created that will give priority to pedestrians until Passeig Bertrand.

The final result will be a new Plaça de la Vila in which the recovery of the heritage and the environmental quality of the public space will have been affected. It will be carried out with a budget of 3,296,342.04 euros and is part of the project that was presented in the call for FEDER grants for Integrated Action Plans of local entities, of which the Sant Feliu City Council obtained 4.5 million euros .
